Had there been sufficient funding, the appearance of Mt. Rushmore would have been very different. Originally, the monument was intended to feature full figures of the four presidents – George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt – instead of just their heads. Unfortunately, the carving of the sculpture was halted in 1941 and the full version of Mt. Rushmore was never completed.
