On October 4, 1909, Wilbur Wright made a 20-mile flight up the Hudson River in 33 minutes as part of the 300th New York Hudson-Fulton Celebrations. The US Navy had invited The Wright Brothers to join their naval vessels for a flyby, which was seen by more than a million New Yorkers.
