The Models For American Gothic (1942)

In 1930, Grant Wood painted the iconic American Gothic, featuring a farmer standing beside his daughter in front of a house in Eldon, Iowa. The inspiration for this image came from the house itself and the people Wood imagined living there. The figures were based on his sister, Nan Wood Graham, and their dentist, Dr. Byron McKeeby.
