Niagara Falls Without Water (1969)
In 1969, the US Army Corps of Engineers built a temporary dam in order to carry out a scientific investigation of Niagara Falls. This unexpected development drew the attention of 100,000 people who wanted to get a glimpse of the waterfalls without water. The last time the American Falls had been uncovered was back in March 1848, when a block of ice from Lake Erie caused the Niagara River to cease flowing.
