The White House Didn’t Have Electricity For Nearly A Century
Prior to the installation of electricity in 1891, the White House was entirely illuminated by gas lights. Despite electricity being a relatively new concept at that time, it was eventually installed in the White House. However, the then leader, President Benjamin Harrison, being skeptical of the potential dangers, harbored concerns about getting shocked if he operated a light switch. As a result, he made a decision to not operate any light switch himself.
