Peel Trident (1965-1966)
The Peel Trident, a product of England’s Peel Engineering Company during the mid-1960s, may evoke futuristic imagery akin to The Jetsons, but it was, in fact, a microcar. Introduced as the company’s second three-wheeled microcar, the Trident was marketed as a practical “shopping car” or a “Saloon Scooter.” However, despite its unique design and intended utility, the microcar failed to gain significant traction in the market. Instead, it earned the moniker “The Terrestrial Flying Saucer,” reflecting its unconventional appearance and limited commercial success. Despite its initial lackluster performance, the Peel Trident experienced a resurgence of interest in recent years, notably due to its appearances on the reality series Top Gear.
