This analysis demonstrates that the cost of retiring comfortably can vary by as much as $66,000 across different states, with Hawaii emerging as the most expensive option.
To calculate the annual retirement expenses for Americans aged 65 and older in each state, the study relied on Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates encompassing categories like food, shelter, transportation, healthcare, and utilities. Moreover, to ensure retirees’ comfort, an additional financial cushion equivalent to 20% of the total cost was factored in.
